911 Emergency Communications
The Yancey County 911 Emergency Communications Center dispatches for Yancey County Sheriff’s Department, Burnsville Police, Yancey Rescue, Yancey EMS, and all 8 Volunteer Fire Departments.

Addressing & Mapping
The Yancey County Addressing Office provides a comprehensive and uniform system of permanent road addresses for all residences and businesses throughout the County in order to facilitate provisions of adequate public safety and Emergency Response Services. It is further designed to benefit the United States Postal Service, local business owners and individual citizens in locating properties and buildings.

Board of Elections
The Board of Elections conducts municipal, county, state and Federal elections in compliance with the election laws of North Carolina and with supervision from the North Carolina State Board of Elections.

Building Inspections
Yancey County Building Inspections administers both the North Carolina mandated Building Codes and the North Carolina state mandated National Flood Insurance Rate Program regulations.

Community Paramedic Program
The Community Paramedic program is designed to bridge the gap between access to primary care services and the needs of the community. Community Paramedicine is a new concept in healthcare delivery and differs in the traditional role of a paramedic on an ambulance in the 911 setting. The Community Paramedic operates in an expanded role, bridging health care gaps and improving access with home visits while decreasing healthcare costs.

County Manager
The Yancey County Board of Commissioners appoints the County Manager to serve as the County’s chief administrator, as defined in the North Carolina General Statutes section 153A-81.

Emergency Services
The purpose of the Emergency Management Department is to assist the citizens and local agencies and first responders as they prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural disasters as well as man-made disaster or emergencies such as fuel spills and gas leaks. Perhaps the most important aspect of the EM Department is mitigation of the effects of these disasters.

Our Emergency Medical Services objective is to provide quality, efficient, and professional emergency services to the citizens and visitors of Yancey County, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Health Department
Yancey County Health Department is located in Burnsville (Yancey County), North Carolina. Yancey County is home to Mount Mitchell, the tallest peak east of the Mississippi, and is located in the mountains of Western North Carolina bordering East Tennessee.

Yancey County contracts with the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles to operate a License Plate Agency or Tag Office.

Public Library
Once part of the A.M.Y (Avery, Mitchel, Yancey) library system, Yancey Count Public Library is now an entity of Yancey County.

Public Works
Yancey County's Public Works Department includes three divisions: Convenience / Recycling Centers, the Transfer Station, and Facility and Grounds Maintenance.

Register of Deeds
The Register is the custodian of various records which are filed for safekeeping. The Register also issues marriage licenses and administers the oath of office to notaries public.

Senior Center
Yancey County Senior Center provides congregate meals, home-delivered meals, Level One and Level Two in-home aide services, transportation, fitness and health, and activities.

Sheriff's Office
The Yancey County Sheriff is an elected constitutional officer responsible for enforcing the laws of North Carolina and Yancey County.

Social Services
The mission of the Yancey County Department of Social Services is to respectfully assist families and individuals by helping them maintain and / or enhance their quality of life, and to prevent abuse, neglect, and exploitation of vulnerable people in the community.

Soil & Water Conservation District
The Yancey County Soil and Water Conservation District is a local subdivision of State government responsible for conserving soil, water, and related natural resources within the district.

The Tax Department consists of two sections, Property Tax Assessing and Property Tax Collections. The Department is responsible for obtaining, developing, analyzing, and maintaining records necessary for the appraisal, assessment, billing, collection, and listing of taxes associated with real and personal property within the jurisdiction of the county,

Yancey County Transportation Authority (YCTA) provides the citizens of Yancey County with fully accessible, non-emergency public transit services that are safe, reliable, courteous, and cost effective.

The Veterans Service Officer advises and assists local veterans and their dependents by completing necessary forms and papers for those who need and may be entitled to assistance.
