Yancey County Commissioners joined with many other state and local governments across the country on Tuesday night by passing a resolution for remembrance of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The resolution calls on all citizens to observe one minute of remembrance at 1:00 pm Eastern Standard Time on Sunday, September 11, 2011. It further calls for the ringing of bells, blowing of whistles, or sounding of sirens during this time to mark the moment of remembrance. Almost 3,000 innocent lives were lost on that September day that changed America forever.

The resolution was part of a nationwide effort by Senator Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey for all citizens of the United States to stop for this moment of remembrance on the 10th anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001.
