Commissioners Recognize Day of Prayer with Resolution

Yancey County Commissioners at their May meeting approved a resolution recognizing Thursday, May 6, 2010, as a "Day of Prayer" in Yancey County. Authorized by Congress and President Truman in 1952, the National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday in May.

As stated in the Commissioners resolution, the County "recognizes that the National Day of Prayer is an opportunity for Americans of all faiths to join in united prayer to give thanks for blessings received, to request healing for wounds endured, and to ask God to guide our leaders in making decisions affecting the people." Commissioners proclaim May 6, 2010, a "DAY OF PRAYER" in Yancey County and urge our citizens to join together in their homes, places of work and places of worship, to pray for our County, State and Nation.

A ceremony sponsored by the Yancey Baptist Association is scheduled for 11 a.m on Thursday, May 6th on the Burnsville Town Square.
