Yancey County Department of Social Services New Location
The Yancey County Department of Social Services is proud to announce the opening of their new location at 320 Pensacola Rd on Monday, 30 January 2012 at 8:30 a.m. The contact numbers will remain the same for Economic/Administrative Services at 828-682-6148; and Children and Family Services at 828-682-2470. The mailing address continues to be PO Box 67, Burnsville, NC 28714.
The consolidation will enable DSS to serve the citizens of Yancey County in a more convenient and efficient manner.

Applications Accepted for Housing Repair Program
Yancey County is in the process of applying for a $400,000 grant to implement a Scattered Site Housing Rehabilitation Program. Every three years each county in North Carolina, with the exception of Wake and Cumberland, is eligible to receive Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding from the North Carolina Division of Community Assistance to develop a Scattered Site Housing Program. The program provides funding for housing repairs to low-income homeowners. Homes selected for the program must be brought up to current building codes, and could possibly be eligible for replacement with a new mobile home.

Tax Payment Drop Box
For the convenience of Yancey County Taxpayers, the Tax Collections Office has placed a payment drop box near the front entrance of the courthouse at the top of the sidewalk. Directions for drop box payment are posted at the location. Envelopes are provided inside the drop box for payment by check. Please do not deposit cash.
